Foreign Conversion

The FAA offers three primary methods for converting a foreign pilot certificate to an FAA certificate. Conversions from EASA and Canadian certificates result in unrestricted FAA certificates. In contrast, certificates issued under 14 CFR 61.75, based on a foreign certificate, carry the same limitations as the original foreign license and remain dependent on its validity. Essentially, this process facilitates operating within U.S. national airspace using your foreign pilot credentials.

• EASA Private Pilot & Instrument Rating Conversion

Private Pilot Based on Foreign 61.75

Obtain Verification Letter

•Obtain an FAA Medical (In some cases your foreign medical is eligible) 

Complete IACRA 8710 Application

•Make Appointment with FAA DPE

•Be issued FAA PPL with foregin ratings held

•Take a flight review as required under FAR 61.56

Holder of Canadian Certificate

Obtain Verification Letter

•Take FAA Canadian Conversion written exam as appropriate to your Canadian Certificate (PPL,CPL,IR,ATP)

Complete IACRA 8710 Application

•Make Appointment with FAA DPE

•Be issued FAA certifcate with ratings held

Holders of Canadian Certificates may convert the certifcate to the equivalent FAA certifcate simply by getting the verification letter and taking a special FAA written exam at any Computer testing center. The certificate will be issued by the DPE or at a FSDO office.
